Sports and Me

“I don't know anything that builds the will to win better than competitive sports.”

-Richard M. Nixon quotes (American 37th US President )

We keep hearing such things about sports and there could not be any denial to this obvious fact that sports do play a very important part in our lives. Frankly speaking, I sometimes feel envious when I see my friends and known out there in fields playing various games and all I do is cheer them (of course cheering plays an equally important role in any game too...or at least that’s what I think!). That adrenaline rush when you are so close to your target, the way you tackle the obstacles, the heart pumping moments when one tiny action could change the course of the game…all these things are seriously easier written than experienced! For someone like me who hasn’t been lucky enough to be an active part of any outdoor sport as such (i still wonder why?), being a spectator to any electrifying game is a privilege indeed! Basketball in school, football and badminton in college, and cricket throughout…these are the games that i have been (and I am) growing up with, like most of us do. Some of my friends (the very few who aren’t interested in any kind of sport) sometimes question about my weird interest in sports (weird, since I’m never seen playing any of them), and honestly, I still don’t have an answer to that. Neither do I have an answer to my own questions about why did I never take the initiative of participating in sports. Why did I never force myself into playing the games that I love to watch?

Ah, those questions keep coming in my mind every now and then, especially after watching some game (I just got back from watching one of the APL league matches :P). But there is one request that I would like to put forward to everyone who reads this (and if possible, even those who don’t): Try to get into any sport that you can. I am not going to blabber about the benefits it has (you have your fitness magazines to fill that space), but all that I want to say is that give yourself a chance to feel those heart pumping moments..the zest, the enthusiasm, the competitiveness, the passion to win, the urge to finish it till the end, the desperation to win the game…believe me friends these are some of those precious things that cannot be replaced by any anything else.

(ouch, did I become Aunt Martha this time? Gosh, I sound like that Granny who sits by the window and advices her grandchildren about various stuff :P) hehe…sorry, but I guess the APL here has that effect…

So, till I meet you all next time, keep smiling and stay fit. With a ‘tata bye bye’ to the winters (Winterji, we’re done bearing u!), a smiling bye to you all as well! :)

Hostel Memories and me

“Birthdays are nature’s way of telling us to eat more cake, and enjoy more”

One of the best memories of my hostel life are those of the birthdays we celebrate here…and I made yet another cherish able memory last Saturday, thanks to my roommates! It was one of my roomies’ birthday and we celebrated it as per the customs. And as we were enjoying every moment of it, my mind kept racing in the future, thinking about what will I remember about  this special day as I grow really old…the way we danced crazily? Or the way the poor birthday girl got her painful birthday bashes? Or the excitement we all had to see her reactions? No, i don’t think I would remember all that (I’m so very sure about my goldfish memory...), but what I shall remember is that I enjoyed my teenage life to the fullest and without any regrets (touchwood!!). And that is how most of us would want to remember our pasts right? (Bubble becomes Aunt Marge again?!!) Ah, well getting back to the hostel memory, birthdays surely have some kind of magic you know, no matter who is turning a  year old, it surely pumps you up a bit (you’d wish even the top floor stranger a happy birthday!). And when it comes to celebrating a birthday in the hostel, the magic increases manifold! The minute the clock strikes 12, the poor birthday boy/girl has to run for cover to escape from the ruthless bumps friends give! And then the chain of wishes from family and friends, dancing funky on typical music, going insane to the limits! Aah, im surely going to miss this frolic when I won’t be a hosteller, along with the plethora of other wonderful things!
There are a many many more things that my mind wants to pen down but somehow words are failing me to do so…that’s how emotions are sometimes! So time to get nostalgic again, and to leave you guys with lots of wishes….Sangathan ‘10 is rolling already  and mid-semesters aren’t far away people!! Adieu!

TEACHERS AND ME

“Teachers are expected to reach unattainable goals with inadequate tools. The miracle is that at times they accomplish this impossible task." - Haim G. Ginott
Hey all! Another beautiful Sunday, this time all the more special; 5th September, the one day that we students never forget (we ought to never forget!!). And before I start my blah blah, Happy Teachers Day!!! They say that, after parents, it is your teachers that help you mould your tomorrow! Well I personally couldn’t agree more. Its not that we always have the best teachers around us, but nevertheless, we learn something or the other from each one of them! This special day reminds me of one very special teacher I cannot ever forget, Mrs. Rosaline, who taught me Science back in 6th.  Now it wasn’t just the way she taught that made her my favorite. What made her so special was her unbelievable caring nature. The way she would speak to us was as if we were her own children! I have had many teachers and guides after her but Rosaline Ma’am has indeed left a lasting impression…people like her truly inspire students in the good way. And so on this Teachers day, I not only express my heartfelt thanks to all my dear teachers who have inspired me in more than many ways, but also request my fellow mates to make this one day a special one for your teachers and guides…have a happy bubbly day! Bye…….

Outing and Me

Hey everyone….hope the unpredictable weather hasn’t taken much off your moods! Well this certainly isn’t my favorite season, but not something I could hate too! Anyways, this week Saturday turned out to be a working day for us, and for hostellers like me, it certainly wasn’t a very good news…I had plans to go down to the city! Never mind, I shifted plans to Sunday and off we went for a break we always deserve! Now, many of the newcomers (and some faculty too) here think that why do we students keep running to Jaipur every weekend?? Well I could tell them aplenty reasons but to put them all in a nutshell, here are the reasons numbered:

1) Pet Puja! No matter how good mess food is, we have a tendency to always like the dhabe ka khana down the city road.

2) Academics! Its only every Saturday that we realize that we need to buy our course books (that we always postpone for the next week1)

3) SHOPPING!!!! We students have to go the market every other weekend cause we need to buy some essentials always, only to realize that we already have a stock of it

4) Birthdays! Every other weekend, there is a birthday or some other occasion coming up, so who wouldn’t want to buy gifts and cards and cakes and chocolates?? Everyone of us. Only to realize that the occasion is either over or yet to come in like 10 days!

5) Family! We have to stay connected with our families right, so every second weekend, we are striding to jaipur to meet our relatives, who we never end up meeting with!

6) Theatre! What will happen of the box office if we don’t go watch the latest flick? We can’t be so hard hearted can we?

7) Health! It is only on Friday that some of us suddenly notice how sick our roommate/friend is and seeks immediate medical attention, hence Saturday goes for doctors appointment. Once we get down that bus, all sickness vanishes suddenly!

And the list could go on and on….hehe!! Well honestly, one of the many things that I shall miss is standing in those long queues for out passes and giving some lame reasons for getting one! Ah, stepping in 3rd year has certainly made me nostalgic! Anyways, you all keep enjoying life, and keep commenting! Tada!!!!

Juniors and ME

“Good evening ma’am!!” For the people who are oblivious enough, this ain’t any scene of some classroom; this is what is happening in the campus from the past 2 weeks! Oh before anything else, a very warm welcome to the freshers from Bubble’s side…the coming years are surely going to include many twists and turns that will help you shape up your life for better…wait! Did I just go philosophical at that??!!

Ah, so getting back at this “wishing” business…it is this kind of a ritual here at the campus to wish our seniors whenever and wherever you see them and address them as “sir/Ma’am”! So for the juniors who find all this weird, well guys let me just tell you that this is exactly what most of us feel as sophomores! Looking at the scene around I am so reminded of my first year...those evening walks when we would go around wishing every senior we would see!! *nostalgic*.

I still vividly remember the times when we joined here and had this terror of seniors and ragging in our minds…it was a relief though when that fear turned out to be just something unreal; we could not have expected something better than what we got! So much did I wish my seniors back then that now even if I have become a ‘super senior’ and they ‘super duper seniors’ I still can’t help myself from calling them Ma’am/Sir! Silly enough but then as they say that old habits die hard. Oh and the first time that we became seniors, gosh that was absolutely crazy! My batch mates and friends would remember how many of us had this craze of becoming seniors and trying to boss around the campus, only to be pulled down by the ‘anti-ragging’ affidavit!! Haha…I should have clicked pictures of some my friends when they had that alarming expression on their faces!!

And now that our juniors are seniors themselves, just a little piece of advice (why is Bubble more like Aunt Marge type today?!!!): please do not try to practice your ‘senior’ rights in the wrong ways...it could just back-fire and put you into some deep trouble! Enjoy your time to the fullest because that’s what life expects us to do. As for the super senior and super-duper seniors…relax and enjoy the scenario is all that Aunt Marge a.k.a. Bubble can say ;)……..au revoir!!!

FRIENDS and ME

Before anything else, HAPPY FRIENDSHIPS DAY!!!!! With this Sunday being so special, it was obvious that I write about friends since that’s the thing that has been going on in my mind since last night! Now that its my 3rd year as a college student, I suddenly realize how quickly I’ve bonded with the people around. People who were complete strangers some time ago are like the best buddies now! (well that’s what happens with friends right?) of course we have friends in every walk of our lives, but I feel the closest ones are those that we make here, during our college days. I’m pretty sure that once my 4th year gets over, I’ll be surely missing every friend of mine here….ah! I’d rather get back to the present now!
So, yea, getting back to today, I’m sure most of you would have some fantastic plans to celebrate this special day! and even if you don’t, well, spending time with friends is the best thing ever isn’t it? Well at least that’s what I plan to do…laughing like maniacs on stupid jokes, faking to be angry when actually you are giggling from within, teasing your friend with the person she/he is petrified of, making a mole-hill out of nothing, hitting each other so hard you could go red…and a lot more things that would make the day all the more special! I’m already excited, so off I am to make yet another cherished memory of a lifetime..hope you all have fun too!! Till the next Sunday, Bubble says a good bye to our wonderful readers and wishes them a healthy week ahead! Take care!

NEW SESSION AND ME

Before anything else…heyaaa!!! Writing again after such along time, really sorry for not sharing my views this long. I could list a plenty of reasons, but then they all seem petty excuses to me...so no excuses for not writing in. And now since college has begun, there is no way I could get away from writing as Bubble (as some of my friends call me).

So, how are you all? Honestly, I don’t think I could write anything on some topic like I have been doing before…we are back from a long vacation and I honestly am curious to know how was it for u all, our valued readers (did I sound like some salesperson??? :P). 1st year pass outs must have felt great to return back home (*feeling nostalgic*), 2nd year students (like me) had this ‘practical training’ to keep them busy all the time, while those in PG courses said ‘tally-ho’, 3rd year people were also into training and all…in short, loads of action even during the vacations that will keep the campus buzzing this whole week!!! And then we have people who didn’t do anything at all apart from sleeping, eating and facebooking/tweeting... (I’m partially included in this category as well!!). Nevertheless, whatever category you may be in, I’m pretty sure you all had a great time (my fb wall is a proof, thanks to your posts and updates). Oh, and talking about Facebook and Twitter (which I recently joined), I should really thank these social sites…they actually kept me connected with my friends and family no matter where I was. Of course, this is the main reason why most of us are hooked to these social networking sites, but they became all the more important to me when I was away from my Mom! Also, I could say a hi to all my friends, whether they be in any part of the world, and talk to them as if I were in college…that would make my lazy days pass like *snap*!!

And seriously speaking, this new academic year has already started with a bang!! Ever since the news of the new rules has reached our ears, there has been no pause to our discussions!! Log into FB anytime, you will see a new post/update regarding these rules! Chat with any Amitian, and this would be the first topic anyone would talk on (me included!!). And then of course, the results!! They turned out to be terrifying for some, wonderful for others and as usual, surprising for all! I could actually tell this from my experience, 70% of my chats in the past two weeks have begun not with “hey wassup??” but with “hey, how was your result?”!! (It does become a little tricky when you don’t want to talk about your result really...) And then there was this whole hostel shifting things…and the change in the college timings…..ah! This week really has been like a ride!!!

Hmmm….so did this article get too long? I don’t think so, coz compared to the myriad of things I have in my mind, the length seems pretty decent to me!! But I guess our editor would have a hard time editing this ’not-an-article-at-all’ type of article…hehe!! So, I’l take your leave for this week, will be back next Sunday with something more to talk on! Oh, I got an idea!! Why don’t u suggest me what to talk about? Who knows, it might help my mind to work in a better way and come up with something good next time?? Keep commenting, and take care! God bless!!

Success and Me

"Always bear in mind that your own resolution to succeed is more important than any other".
Abraham Lincoln

Ask anyone about their future, and the impromptu answer would be: "I want to be successful!" D'uh, I mean, which human in his/her senses would want to be a failure?? Hehe, jokes apart, all of us run in this rat race to find success and happiness, without even knowing about what do we actually search for!!

The movie "fashion" beautifully showed a contrast between people who were successful but not happy and those who owned up their success to their happy lives. In my point of view, success follows happiness rather than the vice-versa. Because unlike success, happiness is totally under our control; being happy all depends on our perspective. Of course other factors also come into play like hard work, perseverance etc...You obviously don't expect to pass your tests by just smiling!

I also believe that a person who sets his/her goals right and work up to it without actually down his/her morals, is bound to be successful. Success for me is like a butterfly, fluttering from one person to another. But what is left behind is the sweet nectar of joy. So rather while the butterfly comes fluttering back to u, enjoy the present moments!

For the readers who are astonished by these thoughts of mine and wondering why did I talk about all this is because the only source of success for us right now is the Exam Season.....and u better not take it a mere butterfly! Good luck everyone... tally raho!

Summers and Me

Phew!!! Its mid-April and my gosh the sun is blazing already!! I mean, I was still cherishing the sweet winter when all of a sudden the hot dry winds got me back into the present!!!! Summers are back, and this time, even stronger than before!! Sweaters have been replaced by sweaty shirts; coolers and AC’s are already working 24/7; and all of us are fervently praying for the weather to cool down a bit! This has been the scene of our campus for the past month; all of us here are dreading the worst part of the season already!!!
With our final semester exams approaching, it is getting a little difficult to ignore the heat and focus completely on studying. At least this is what my friends and I were going through, so we thought of getting a cooler this weekend to kill the heat in our rooms. So we went, in the blazing hot afternoon to the city and believe me, those 3 hours in the market were nothing less than the torture!! The heat was so intense, that even getting into malls gave only a temporary relief!!! To add to the worries selecting the best amongst so many was another difficult task to do! Thank god I had my friends along who helped me to pick the better than the best; else I would have literally melted down in the market itself!! Of course I am much happier now; sitting in front of the cooler is what I call heaven during summers!!!
And I honestly think that this season is much more fun-filled, especially during exam time! Staying awake the whole night, going for a shower for like 2-3 times a day, water fights all through the corridors, soaking ourselves in ice cold water and then catch cold.  Summers do bring life in the hostel!!! Perhaps that is why I like the even semesters here...and though it is my second experience only, but still I prefer giving my exams in a playful mood rather than in a shivering mode (as it happened in the 3rd semester finals!!! What your opinion???
So before I sign off, heres hope that you don't get barbecued in the scorching summers!!! Take good care of yourselves, and good luck for the exams.... (Wish me luck too!!)
