21/01/2010: The students of Amity School of communication attended the International Literature Festival held in Jaipur on 21st of January 2010. During the festival the students got a chance to interact with some of the gems belonging to the field of Media. Great poets, actors, writers, authors, journalists etc, all were present with their ocean of knowledge to grace the occasion and to make the festival a wonderful platform for the sharing of knowledge.

Among the great personalities who attended the festival include Gulzar, Javed Akhtar, Barkha Dutt, Om Puri, Shabana Azmi, Girish Karnad, Prasoon Joshi, Shazia Omer, Sania Shephard, Geoff Dyer, Basharat Peer, Chetan Bhagat, Omer Hassan, Arvind Krishna Mehlotra, K. Satchinandan, Rahul Bose and many others.

During the whole event students along with their faculty members shared their feelings, aspirations and doubts related to their field with the guests. The interactive session with few eminent persons like Mr. Gulzar and Mr. Om Puri proved to be extremely fruitful in the direction of enhancing student’s knowledge Overall the whole event was a dream coming true for many.

DIARY OF EVENT:

The first event attended by the students was ‘Bhasha Swar’,which took place in Durbar Hall. The session was dedicated to some of the very famous and experienced regional writers, who recited few of their wonderful creations either in their own language or translated in English. The guests included some of the stalwarts like, Ashok Vajpeyi, Arvind K Mehrotra, Gulzar, K Satchidanandan.

The next session was ‘Visible Cities’ in which Geoff Dyer, Max Rodenbeck discussed the lost cities and civilizations of the world.

The next knowledge gaining experience was the Interview session of Mr. Gulzar with some of the noted journalists representing different media. The students got an opportunity to have a direct face to face interaction with him and talk about some of his recent Nazms and writings dealing with some of the very sensitive issues like Indo-Pak relations and his views on such matters of great concern.
This was immediately followed by a special session based on “Poetry & Readings”-By
Pavan and Gulzar. Introduced by Neeta Gupta.

We also got time to attend a very –very informative session being moderated by none other than the extremely liked actor,Mr Rahul Bose, interacting with some very famous foreign writers and film-makers to throw light on some the very technical ares of Film-Making,like Sreenplay.Scriptwriting and Adaptations from books and novels into films.

The added attraction of the trip was a very short meeting with Mr Om Puri, the noted Bollywood actor and Miss Nandita Puri ,sharing some their experiences of being associated with Film Industry for quite a long time and talking about their future plans.

The last session was like an icing to the cake when the students dream of meeting a very famous and successful personality like Mr. Javed Akhtar and Mrs. Shabana Azmi really came true. The students were overjoyed to see them. Shabana Azmi created a different atmosphere in the Durbar Hall by reading from the famous memoirs of her mother Shaukat Kaifi. The session named “Kaifi & I” Introduced by Urvashi Butalia proved to be a beautiful one where Shabana Azmi went very emotional while discussing on certain intimate topics like Mother-Daughter relationship and at the same time critically analyzing todays trends where one finds every relationship to be conditional. Although the last session could not be fully attended by the hostellers since they had to return back, but still the trip was overall a worth memorable one and highly informative.

Our wholehearted thanks goes to our Dy Director, Mr Manish Verma for making this trip possible by giving us the permission to attend this festival
