Cricket "OBSESSION"

Posted in

For almost a week everyone’s been talking about the semi – finals between India and Pakistan and in all this , I was somewhere lost and least interested. Since childhood, I could never understand this craze for cricket among Indians, and why was there a need to worship it as the “god of all sports”. Well this was my ideology because I was never inclined towards sports. For long I was not even acquainted to most of the cricket terminologies and was almost an out caste from this “society of cricket worshippers”. The worst used to be when even after having two televisions at home, I had no option other then walking up and down the passage stamping my feet as both of them were occupied by my cricket loving family and their cricket loyal friends.
The most amazing thing happened when one fine day I realized that it was not cricket , but hockey which  our national game. Well am sure, half of India doesn’t even know this, keeping in mind the hype cricket gets. The question that arises in the flip girl’s mind is why is there such a distinction? Why isn’t each sport treated equally in India?
With the cricket players playing in pools of money and giving a tough competition to “Uncle scrooge’s vault “ on one hand and the hockey players, who were left with no other option ,than going on a strike to demand for their rightful  salaries, am sorry, I can’t figure out how’s it our national sport? We talk about the feelings of nationality , yet this is how we Indians treat our national game. But then, why am I even complaining, when our national bird and national animal could be endangered and almost at the verge of extinction, then why not our national game , which is already a low profile sport in our country.
My facebook account was flooded with status updates, cheering and rejoicing India’s semi final victory, but there wasn’t even 1% of the same hype during the Hockey world cup, nor there any disappointment when the Indian team was ousted. On the contrary, our cricket worshipping  society would go into depression every time India would lose a match, however insignificant it might be.
When a movie like Chak De India came, it was considered an expensive experiment; a. it was a movie on hockey ; b. it was subjected to woman empowerment. But it did bring in a mini revolution, when we Indians were awakened. But then it was short lived, with the Introduction of IPL , one of the highest money minting and star studded ventures of the Cricket Board, our cricket worshippers were back in form , yet again neglecting the major issue pertaining to the  significance of our national game.
Coming over to football, I was tired of jokes on the perspective Indian football team , that was circulated during the FIFA world cup. I was severely annoyed and disgusted by this approach. How can you make fun of your own country? We have immense talent; it’s just that we haven’t been able to discover it. And do you want to know the reason, well it is that our sports ministry has diverted most of its attention and funds to cricket and it hardly has time for other sports. There has to be a beginning somewhere. We cannot always stick to “East Bengal and Mohan Bagan”.  It’s obvious, in the first go we might not be able to lift the CUP, but at least we will start somewhere.
India needs to evolve and break from the cliché world of cricket lovers. Our country has more to it than just the “men in blue” . I don’t say that they are not significant, yes they are, very much, I too have my personal favourites and not being a hypocrite, I might not be able to name any hockey player, but that is what something we need to change. It is the time for a “sport’s revolution “, it is the time to recognize new talents and discover new arenas of sports. I don’t criticize  cricket nor the cricket lovers, I too am equally overjoyed to know that India won the semi finals, I too have my fingers crossed for the finals, all I humbly request is not to forget the other sports, especially our national sport. If you have the feeling of nationalism, loyalty towards the country , then have it for all the sports equally. I know the mindsets can’t change in one go, but at least give it a try. Let’s have more Sainas(badminton) , Abhinavs ( rifle shooting), Saurav Ghosals( squash)  and Vijendras(wrestling), and if am not asking for more our own national football team. With that I take a leave.
GO INDIA, GO!!!

Cricket Mania!

First of all my most sincere apologies to my readers for not being able to reach out to you since a long long time…. I’ m seriously sorry friends….but THOUGHTS AND PEPPER had actually run out of thoughts….. ;)
But I’ m back…with a sack full of new, a bit peppy and of course, a bit hatke vichaar s going haywire in my mind……with a pinch of  pepper sprinkled on them……as usual… J

The latest thought that is running in my mind….well I should say, the one that seemed the most appealing to me at this point of time is…
The World Cup Scenario….

Cricket has been since years followed as a religion in our country. The craze, the passion for it has been unending. Cricketers being worshipped as gods, and celebrated as film personalities. This has been the tradition in our country, followed from the time India proved its mettle in the 1983 World Cup. Since then, be it the kids playing gali- cricket in the street, the school or college students playing on the playgrounds or be it the group of old people sitting together hearing to the live commentary on the transistor, after every four years, every Indian has dreamt of seeing the world cup in the hands of the Indian team…

But this craze is not only limited to the world cup matches…of course not….there is one more platform where cricket is accompanied with the same mania, same zeal and same enthusiasm….well….no points for guessing, .. The answer is…. INDIA- PAKISTAN matches….
Whatever be the reasons for it, the craze for any India Pakistan match is umm……..sorry guys but I am seriously out of words to describe it….. And I don’t think any Indian needs words to understand it…. I mean cricket is in our veins guys…
During such matches, it seems that every Indian has been given a strong dose of adrenaline, a boost in their veins ….the hoots when Yuvraj or Dhoni play a master stroke, the mourning when Sachin returns to the pavilion scoring a nervous ninety, the shrieks when Gambhir or Raina are saved from being run- out, or the loud shouts of joy when Bhajji takes a wicket….all these moments do not seem less than a massive moment of celebration, just as the birth of a child at home, most of the times, even more than that… The craze is unbeatable, unmatchable and unimaginable…

Coming back to the current scenario, i.e. World Cup 2011…
It seems that some o the major upsets in the history of cricket have been created in this world cup. Taking a look at the last three matches, Pakistan reaching the semi finals giving West Indies a humungous defeat by ten wickets, the other day New Zealand defeating the giants of the game, the South African team…and the one that is of utmost importance to every Hindustani… India throwing out the Australian team; which has been taking the cup home consecutively for the past two times; in the quarter finals itself. This came as a real pleasant surprise for every Indian who was glued on the seats in front of the idiot box for hours on a stretch just to watch the fate of the world cup trophy, or I should say, just to decide within themselves “Will the cup be ours this time?????
The excitement, the joy, the happiness knew no bounds… Cricket fans celebrating India’s victory over the Victors in every possible way…
Viewing the current situation, and the teams India has to compete with now to claim a right over the cup, it seems somewhat predictable that this year the trophy is ours…. However as goes a famous saying…
“Do Not Count Your Chickens before They Hatch”…

Though now this rule is very less applicable, even then, all we can do is just wait and watch what the destiny holds for the Indian team as well as for the World Cup Dream of every Indian….

So with my best wishes to the Indian Cricket team, Dhoni and his MEN IN BLUE,…and also with a hope that the dream is fulfilled… here is Roshni Punjabi signing off, promising to be back soon, with some more thoughts, and of course… a tinge of pepper… J
Adios readers…
And
Chak De India…  :)

In the Beginning...

Dear friends,

Aryan is back with the ceasefire as he had promised. So without wasting any more time lets begin with the spell of fun and enjoyment and today’s top stories are as follows:-

     • Aryan joins ASCO •

• Making of Hard Tym Journos •

• ASCO on the media trip to Jaisalmer •

Now the stories in detail:-

Aryan joins Amity School of communication (ASCO):

In the early childhood Aryan always dreamt of being Air Force pilot, later after knowing himself he decided to be an engineer (aeronautic). Karna jo b hai but must deals with flying and aircrafts. Aryan ne’er knew that his urge to write will land him in press (being a journalist) one day. Aryan used to write regularly for the various periodicals both local and national. The write ups were so frequent that his acquaintances got a belief Aryan may be working for the organizations but the truth was Aryan was hardly interested in earning from writing rather media. Aryan used to write everything poems, essays, stories lymric etc but today he is focused only on the serious issues. Time passed and Aryan became a well known writer of the valley and the youngest member of the ‘young writers association of India’. It was then when he realized that being an engineer or a pilot is not Aryan’s cup of tea but journalism is. As such he decided to do mass communication after his intermediate (12th) but unfortunately, there was no college which could offer bachelors degree in Journalism and mass communication in the whole of Jammu and Kashmir State. So he decided to move out. But again there was a big snag for Aryan as all the renowned colleges of mass communication and journalism were done with their admission process. Annoyed Aryan with lackadaisical attitude searched Google for the last ray of hope. Oh! My God! To his surprise Amity School of Communication Rajasthan was waiting for him. At this Aryan remembered the famous saying that if one door is closed seven others open. …and finally the day came and Aryan was selected to be the part of ASCO as the student of journalism. That was really a proud moment for him; not because he has joined Amity but he was near to cherish his dreams. Though sometimes Aryan’s associate always taunted him for not sitting in any of the competitive exams but hats-off to his parents who always supported him by all means. May almighty bless them! Now Aryan is Amitian as well as ASCOite and of course journalist.

The first story might be boring a bit but it was really necessary to introduce Aryan – the main character of Ceasefire.

Making of Hard Tym Journos:

Who is a hard time journalist? Really a difficult question to answer but from the media point of view , those journalists who give up there everything for a cause and die working on it but in the context of Aryan it refers to his friends his classmates, a mere group of 13 people rather students along with their faculty, who brought change in their department. In the beginning every hard tym journo considered him self to be the superior and the better than the rest but it is always said time is the best medicine and teacher. We all soon realized ‘together we can’ and hence hard tym journalists rocked. All our dreams stormed and resulted in the development of our esteemed department. From scratch to everything hard time journalists have seen everything. A new development in our department meant a party time for us all. It’s not wrong if I say hum nay badalte ASCO ko dekha hai… It is pertinent to mention here that when hard tym journos joined Amity University Rajasthan only a few people knew about the Amity School of Communication (ASCO) but today every one knows and respects it. ASCO Rajasthan was the first to organize a media fest in Rajasthan and also the first to organize the International Media Conference in the whole country. It will real injustice if I did not name the members of the group rather juggler vain of ASCO called ‘Hard Tym Journos’

Students: Dimple Bajwa, M.Z.Zulfi, Neha Chhabaria, Neha Jain, Pranav Koolwal, Prateek Chamoli, Priyanka Verma, Rajpal Singh,Suraj Singh, Shubham Mishra, T.Sukesh, Udai Khanna and last not but least Vineeta Arora.

Faculty: Dr. Manish Verma, Mr.Deepak Sachdeva, Ms. Jayati Sharma, Ms. Tanushree Mukherji, Mr. Avinash Tripati, Ms Urvashi Techchandani and Mr. Rohan Shivender Pratap Singh.

Hats- off to u all and Cheers ASCO!!!

ASCO on the media trip to Jaisalmer:

As the part of curriculum the students of the amity school of communication went on the media trip to cover the ‘maru mahotsav- desert festival’ to Jaisalmer. This trip was full of adventures and knowledge. Aryan and his friends came to know a lot about each other, about their faculties and also about the place. Aryan considers those days as the best days of his life at amity. Though there were some controversies and trifles but kabhi kabhi who be accha hi hota hai kyun ki daag acche hai na… I must tell you this trip was also the first from the Amity University Rajasthan. First first First ASCO is the BEST!!! We all enjoyed a lot and what else should I share with you kuch baatein parde ke peeche hi achi lagti hai… In the next bulletin you will get to know more about the adventures in Jaisalmer and that too in detail.

Next to come:

• ASCO takes the initiative of first ever college magazine ‘Acumen’.

• Rajasthan’s First ever media fest ‘Sanchaar’09’ kicked off.

• Fun and adventures at Jaisalmer trip.

So wait and do read ‘Ceasefire’ next Saturday… till then take care with the promise that you will take good care of yourself…

Cheers Habeebi!!

Cheers ASCO!!

"GRADUATING"

Hello Blog. Hello people-who-are-actually-reading this Blog. You guys are AWESOME!

Thanks for being such a wonderful reader.

I have just awakened. Previous semester really passed by quick. And I could not post anything from long. When finally I am doing it, it’s just to hold our memories and say GOOD BYE. Yes, this is going to be my last contribution to Amity’s Blog.

It's less than 3 months to May 2011, so close to graduating:-)

I really don't know where all the days and weeks went. Mostly work, study, watch movies, hang outs, and a major time in lafdas and velapanti.

I donno why, but this morning, as I was trying to fall asleep, I started thinking of random happenings. [(And I can function on very little sleep!)]

I have no idea what triggered that train of mind and I am writing here again and for the last time. Ah… well I am here now, documenting some random quirky brainwave activity down.

So here are some random idiosyncratic feelings and happenings about the guy whose column you are reading…. Eerrrnnn….Sazzy says n Eerrr it goes…

-          I never planned to study Mass Comm.

Accidents are good sometimes. How the wheel drove me topsy-turvy and in no time at all I was thrown several time zones away from a normal scheduled life. Well that’s how I was constrained, constrained by the state of affairs to study Mass Comm.

Now after 3 years of study I have realized that this is really the best of whatever I would have ever done in my existence. I am proud to be a Mass Comm. graduate now.

But I guess life is a roller coaster ride that always throws surprises at you. I am happy now though - now I can't imagine doing anything else, okay maybe I still harbor those rock star fantasies!

P.S – But No… never the above justification ever means that any halat ka mara or vela can opt for Mass Comm. You need to have something different.

     -     The Hostel Life

One cannot afford to complete his/her graduation without experiencing a hostel life of at least one year, & if any one does that, believe me you lost a pretty important phase of your Graduation and I call you a big time Looooserrr..!

My hostel life was AWESOME. Haunting in every ones room late at the night and asking – “bhai kuch khane ko hai kya?”, loping out of the hostel after the warden has slept, B’day Celebrations, and much much more. Well on a serious note, I will say – hostel teaches you to live and lead.

P.S. - And for me, my hostel’s WashrooM was the finest place ever. I built up all my creativity & even did some graffiti out there. Whenever I was tensed or wanted to think over a project I would silently go there and meditate for some time.
If I scored good marks in practicals, the credit goes to my beautiful washroom.

     -      The Coolest Hangout ever

– Friends gonna kill me, if I tag their name and am scared.

It was spring I guess, when I along with my 3 friends loped out of hostel. These 3 were my roommate and friends. I never had such a freaking night, actually I was not at all meant to do that, was never so strong to spend ‘a night in an underdeveloped park, totally wet in the rain and without clothes on my body’. Yes that’s what you read, please don’t read it again.

Actually I would like to make a correction; we had a piece of cloth over each one of us. One of our friend’s home was just 200m away & we could not go there. Actually we found it better to expose ourselves in cold (after the rain) rather getting scolded at home.

P.S. - It’s freaking me out or else I would have loved to mention their names.

There are many more such creepy incidents * like I & Rajpal once went to sawai madhopur in auto(130 Km. approx).

And once I or 'we'(yes, again the same group of friends) got in general compartment of Indian railways, later landed on the bus roof; finally along with my trainers (yes that’s what I prefer to call them) just on a fun trip to Udaipur and Jodhpur. Go on a trip with them and trust me they will make you totally fit and an ideal contestant for ROADIES.

I was never made to travel in such horrible but wonderful situation.

We also went on late night drives and much much more. These moments rest in the most precious corner of my heart.

     -      Building Relationships

It’s not just a topic in my Communication Skills syllabi; it’s the most important affair in my Graduation.
I made myself pretty flexible, oops don’t mislead me. I made some really good friends or gems I would call them. Some from other streams, some seniors and a few of juniors. And above all I too had an experience of love and that was incredible. Well, one should experience all of these in a life time.

Ultimately, life is all about people and relationships not work.

When am talking about relations how can I forget my Teachers – you all are the best teachers, I owe you a lot. You have brought the real Sukesh out of me. I wish if I could tag a few names to express my gratitude for all the loving people whom I met in past 3 years. And also I want to tag a few REGULAR readers (you guys are very loving >:D<) of our Blog and my Column. :-)

      -        www.amityuniversityrajasthan.blogspot.com

This became my only refuge for some time in past. It’s our creation and my heart beats here. From just two (Me and Aryan) to a well defined group. I have seen it growing. And I love it like anything.

Just wish that it keeps spreading it wings. For my Juniors it’s a request and an order – love it the way we did. Preserve it and make it the better than the best even made...
Cheers :-)

 -      FAREWELL

I won’t cry out and say that it’s gonna be the most emotional moment of my Graduation, oh my friends I WILL MISS YOU…. No, am not saying it at all….

Actually MY or to be more appropriate, OUR farewell is still due. I just have an intuition that it’s going to be loving…very loving. I got a load of expectations from my juniors. ;-)

-      Future plans – Career
Now jumping on a serious topic, Fun and all loving memories go vague when you don’t end up well. I mean when you don’t establish well.

This is the most crucial moment of my life and I guess it’s the same for my friends. Deciding the best for oneself sometimes becomes very difficult.

Parents, personal interests, friends and a few more factors which affect an individual in a descending order.
I am totally mystified, tensed and quite screwed.

Mystified thinking weather I should go for higher studies now or later, tensed thinking of PLACEMENTS and screwed of the pressure around.

All is well that ends well. And that will happen for sure. :-)

There are many more happenings and a bunch of feelings even & the lines would fall short to express my Randomaties.
Perhaps the idea of graduating for good has grown stronger and deeper as I realized that I have been devoting more time to work.

Well, I am in search of my refuge; wish you also find yours soon.

Stay hungry. Stay foolish.

GOOD BYE :-)
